Book Fairs
Co-chairs work with pre-selected book supplier to arrange book fairs, secure event volunteers and must be present for most shifts during their designated fair(s). The time commitment is heavy during each fair, but otherwise minimal.
Each school will have one fair. Previously, Central and West were in the fall, and South was in the spring.
Yearbooks
Co-chairs collect photos from teachers, work with online yearbook company to design the books and create the online storefront for the sale.
Cultural Arts
South and West chairs provide support by arranging curriculum-complementing cultural arts programming under the direction of each school.
5th grade concert chair responsibilities include:
• Being available during the school day to greet performers and ensure correct concert set up
• Communicating/following up with the symphony to coordinate timing and other details
Back-to-School Kindergarten Playground Meetup
Co-chairs plan a casual meetup on the South playground for all incoming kindergarteners and their families on Monday, August 24.
New Family Welcome Event
Chair organizes and staffs an event the afternoon of Monday, August 24 for new District 35 families that includes a meet and greet with district administrators and chance to learn about community organizations, events and local programming.
Chair responsibilities include:
• Soliciting participation from community organizations. A list of past participants and contacts will be provided
• Securing event food
• Facilitating set up day of event
Back-to-School Breakfast
Volunteers plan and execute a parent breakfast on the first day of school, Tuesday, August 25. Ideally volunteers will be available from 8:15-9:15am. Central and West parents preferred.
Dinks and Drinks Pickleball Fundraiser
Chair and volunteers plan and execute the Dinks and Drinks pickleball tournament/fundraiser taking place at the end of August or in September. Planning starts in June.
Movie Night
Co-chairs plan and execute PTO activities at the Glencoe Park District Movie Night the evening of Friday, September 18.
Kindermingle
Co-chairs plan and execute a casual night out for kindergarten parents in the fall.
Custodian Appreciation Day
Chairs coordinate ways to thank custodians at school (wall of thanks, door decor, etc.) and also order and deliver a meal and/or treats on Custodian Appreciation Day in October.
Principal Appreciation Day
Chairs order and deliver treats for Principal Appreciation Day in October.
Fall Conference Meal
Chairs plan, order and execute a staff meal during November conferences. Volunteers receive the food deliveries, set up and decorate the teachers lounges. Chairs and volunteers must be available by 11am on October 29 to accept food deliveries.
6th Grade Concert and Dessert
Chair works with the Central music department to coordinate dessert during the 6th grade concert in December. They also oversee event volunteers and must be available after school on the day of the concert to set up.
MLK Day Service Project
Volunteers help to execute a district-wide service project on MLK Day. Must be available to attend the event on Monday, January 18.
Winter Staff Surprise
Chair plans, organizes and executes a mid-February surprise appreciation gift for all staff members.
Volunteers help to execute at each school.
Staff Appreciation Week
Chair and volunteers plan a special week of activities and gifts for teachers and staff at the beginning of May.
Spring Carnival
Chair and volunteers will plan an outdoor spring carnival for South and West students that typically takes place mid-to-late May. Planning begins in the late fall.
8th Grade Graduation Booklet and Food Truck Lunch
Graduation Booklet Co-Chairs (8th grade parents preferred): Gather student info and photos and help to create the 8th grade graduation ceremony booklet.
Food Truck Lunch (7th and 8th grade parents preferred): Chair plans and organizes the 8th grade food truck lunch at school after graduation rehearsal, which takes place the day before graduation. Volunteers assist with planning and execution.
General Social Event Volunteer
Volunteers will be contact to help with different events throughout the school year.
Fundraising
The fundraising chair and volunteers are responsible for identifying and creating relationships with local businesses that may result in fundraising opportunities.
South Art Room
Volunteers help out in the south art room and will be contacted by the art teacher with specific details.
Bulletin Board Committee
Committee designs and creates bulletin board displays at South and/or West throughout the year.
New Family Liaisons
Chair assigns and manages volunteers who will reach out to new families prior to the new family welcome event on August 24.
Gifts
Chair purchases holiday, end-of-the-year, milestone and retirement gifts for faculty and administration twice a year.
As-Needed Volunteer
Volunteers will be contacted on an as-needed basis during the year as opportunities arise.
Room Representatives
Room representatives assist classroom teachers as needed (including planning and soliciting volunteers for parties, field trips and other activities), manage classroom donations for parties and teacher gifts and serve as liaisons between teacher, PTO and classroom parents.
Priority is given to parents who have not yet served in this role.
